Fontenelle Park
Fontenelle Park has a long history in the Omaha community. The park was one of three major public open spaces envisioned by landscape architect H.W.S Cleveland in the 1890 park system master plan for the City. Currently, much of the 108-acre park is utilized as a 9-hole golf course. Over the course of time features have been added to the park including tennis courts, a splash pad, and playground areas. In short, the park has adapted to the demands of the current generations. In recent years the golf course's user-ship (rounds played) has steadily declined and since 2006 there has been a drop of nearly 35% in rounds played. During this same period the City has also realized an increase in demand for picnic and play areas throughout the park system.
The City of Omaha Parks Department wants your ideas about the future of Fontenelle Park. How can the park be improved? Should the pond be expanded? Is the golf course the highest and best use of the space?
Remember, we are looking for practical, implementable, and usable ideas for improving Fontenelle Park.
