Sun Dawgs

2 Ideas

For 15 years, the City of Omaha has sponsored Sun Dawgs, a free summer playground program for Omaha's youth that involves arts & crafts, games & sports, swimming and water tag, special event trips, and overall summer fun. In 2010, the program hosted more than 3,700 youth, ages 6 to 15. Like many city programs, funding for Sun Dawgs was cut in the wake of the city budget shortfall. However, it is the commitment of the city to continue to provide this great program. In fact, the city desires to make the program an all year long, "out-of-school" program for local kids.

The City of Omaha Parks Department wants your creative ideas about improving the Sun Dawgs program. Are there ways the program can become more efficient, yet still provide the necessary programming for participants? If the number of locations are consolidated to community centers, what can be done to ensure the number of participants stays the same or increases? Also, is Sun Dawgs the best name for the program? Is there a better name?
